A few more storms Sunday; low-end severe and flood risk

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect through 7 p.m. for Caldwell and Fayette counties.

AUSTIN, Texas — Widespread rain and storms swept through Central Texas on Saturday night dropping 1 to 3 inches of rainfall in many locations. Fortunately, we picked up some beneficial rain without any major flooding or severe weather issues, but we're still not completely done with rain for the weekend.

We don't expect storms to be as widespread as Saturday night, but we do expect scattered rain and storms across the KVUE area through Sunday evening.  Severe storms will be possible, especially for Caldwell and Fayette counties where a stalled boundary is acting as a focal point for storms. These two counties are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7 p.m. Sunday.

The severe weather risk will be highest for the southern half of the KVUE area. Again, we're not expecting everyone to see stormy weather, but there is still a level 2 of 5 severe weather threat from the Storm Prediction Center. Large hail and strong winds will be the main concerns. The tornado threat is very low, but not completely zero.

Below you can see one computer models take on things for the rest of Sunday afternoon. The highest storm chance will be in the coastal plains, but scattered showers and storms will also be able to develop farther north and west closer to a stalled cold front. The rain chance through Sunday afternoon and evening is about 50% to 60%.

The Weather Prediction Center has reduced the flood risk for Central Texas on Sunday, but there is still a level 2 of 4 flood risk for the southern Interstate 35 corridor and the coastal plains.

Rain chances quickly dwindle for the upcoming week, and we look ahead to a hot and humid forecast with feels-like temperatures close to the triple digits by midweek!

The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast.

In the meantime, the extended forecast can be found below:
