AUSTIN, Texas — Grace Thornton is our weekend Daybreak meteorologist, joining KVUE in January 2023.

She previously worked in Panama City, Florida at ABC affiliate WMBB as a weekend meteorologist and journalist, covering a range of severe and tropical weather systems and long hot summers.

However, she is no stranger to winter weather either. Grace was born and raised in Towson, Maryland just north of Baltimore. Where she first experienced a mix of all types of weather each season. Her family never fails to mention that she was born between two blizzards in January of 1996, bringing multiple feet of snow to the Mid-Atlantic.

Grace graduated from Salisbury University in 2018, majoring in Geography, specializing in Geographic Information Systems and Atmospheric Science. During her time in college, she dipped her feet into broadcasting by interning with the WBAL Weather Team the summer of her junior year. She also earned college credits storm-chasing with a small class from her college, driving over 3,000 miles in 10 days, following storms from Nebraska to New Mexico.

After college, Grace worked as a meteorologist with Maxar Technologies forecasting for crop futures. She tracked monsoonal patterns that affected global coffee, sugar, and cocoa production. In 2021, she switched careers and went into broadcasting, where she has been ever since.

Grace is excited to serve the Central Texas community forecasting the dynamic, everchanging weather here. In her free time, Grace likes to explore hiking trails and always has some sort of painting or drawing project in the works.
