HUTTO, Texas — After just seven months on the job, Hutto ISD's superintendent has resigned.
Dr. Raúl Peña was named the lone finalist for the role in August 2023 before taking over in September. Peña replaced former superintendent Dr. Celina Estrada Thomas, who retired in May 2023.
During the April 25 board meeting, the district accepted Peña's resignation. He explained his decision to step down, stating a family medical emergency as the reason.
Peña joined Hutto ISD after departing from his role as chief talent officer for Fort Worth ISD, where he helped oversee more than 75,000 students and 11,000 employees.
Dr. Cara Malone, who currently serves as assistant superintendent of human resources, will now also serve as acting superintendent.
