What Does Installation Restore Point Mean?

An installation restore point is an automatically saved version of the state of an operating system, an application and/or the user’s data that is captured when an application or operating system is installed. If a future problem arises, the user’s data can be restored to the same state as before the installation occurred.

Techopedia Explains Installation Restore Point

Other types of restore points are system checkpoints (restore points scheduled by the computer) and manual restore points created by the user. Restore points are a part of the Windows OS System Restore utility. In fact, many restore points may exist depending on the use and settings for creating scheduled restore points. However, installation restore points are automatically created whenever an installation takes place. If an OS or application becomes unstable, this utility can be used to restore the system to the same state it had before the difficulty occurred.

Microsoft Windows XP creates restore points each time a device driver or a System Restore compatible application is installed, a Windows Update is completed, or a prior restore point is restored. Other restore points are created after every 24 hours of computer use or 24 calendar hours (whichever occurs first), when the OS starts after being shut down for 24 hours, or when the user requests it.
