Tesla’s iOS app received an update last Friday, and decompiling the latest version’s code suggests that the Apple Watch may soon get an official Tesla app.
According to the website Tesla App Updates, the decompiled code from the latest version of the Tesla app binary includes multiple references to a “watch app.”
These references suggest that it might be possible in the future to use your Apple Watch as a digital key to remotely unlock compatible Tesla vehicles. This could be useful in situations where your iPhone runs out of battery, if you forget to bring it with you, or if you purposefully leave the phone at home to rely on your wearable’s cellular connection.
While there are some third-party Apple Watch apps currently available on the App Store that can unlock compatible vehicles, having an official Tesla app for the Apple Watch would be welcome news for drivers.
Earlier this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that an official Apple Watch app is in the works. Although there’s no confirmation yet on when it will be released, the watch references in the decompiled code provide a strong indication that the app is actively being developed.
Sure
